FRESNO, Calif. – When Pleasant Mattress was looking for a way to add some pizzazz to the customer experience for its new MAXX bedding line, it realized the best idea was in the bag. Literally.

So the family owned bedding independent, founded as Pleasant Bag Co. in 1959, decided to up its bag game. The company developed an upscale bag to protect the MAXX line throughout the delivery cycle.

Pleasant Mattress says it makes it a habit to look outside the mattress industry for marketing and customer service ideas that enhance the customer experience.

The company developed a heavy-duty, non-woven branded bag, which it says is reminiscent of bags used by high-end shoe or purse suppliers, that not only protects the mattress, but also helps ensure a cleaner delivery into the consumer’s home. Outside each branded bag is an outer plastic bag that is removed before entering the home, keeping dirt and grime out, officials said.

“MAXX is a stunning lifestyle product with tremendous comfort experience,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “We are always seeking to make the consumer experience better at all touch points. The in-home delivery experience is just as important as the quality and comfort experience for our consumers. By taking things a step further and encasing each mattress in two protective covers, we are emphasizing the extra care we take in delivering a superior product to our customers.”

Once the sleep system is delivered and set up, the non-woven mattress bag is folded and presented to the consumer, who can then store the bag for future use.

Branching out into its own branded mattress line, Pleasant Mattress recently introduced its MAXXline, which encompasses eight mattresses with varying support and comfort levels. Designed as a sturdier mattress line, MAXXbeds are engineered for extra, sag-free support with heavy-wire coils and ultra-density foams, the company said.
