Pleasant Mattress, based in Fresno, Calif., reports that it has donated 16 mattresses for individuals and families who have lost their homes in the Erskine Fire near Lake Isabella, Calif. In the last two months, fires have burned nearly 100,000 acres in California. As of July 11, the Erskine Fire had burned more than 60,000 acres, killed two people and destroyed more than 280 homes.

Pleasant Mattress made the donation through The Furniture Store and Mattress Center in Lake Isabella, which is coordinating the effort with God’s Storehouse of the Kern River Valley, an emergency food distribution program in Weldon, Calif.

“Recovering from the devastation of losing their homes will be a long process for the victims of this destructive fire,” said Rion Morgenstern, president and CEO of Pleasant Mattress. “Supporting our community is part of our mission at Pleasant Mattress. I am thankful we are able to contribute one small part to help rebuild the lives that have been impacted.”

David and Robin Pontius, owners of The Furniture Store and Mattress Center, share Morgenstern’s concern for their neighbors. “When any community experiences this kind of tragedy, it’s up to all of us to aid in any way we can,” said David Pontius. “It’s an honor to be part of this effort.”
